Once again the weather Gods were shining upon us as we awoke to another beautiful autumn day. Marilyn and I headed out to Salmon Ponds early to 'stake our claim' at the larger of the covered BBQ areas, while the other members congregated at the Granton Car Park for a leisurely drive down. Apparently there was a Lone Piper at Granton, and he very kindly and ceremoniously piped the cars away as they left for the Ponds. It's a shame no one thought to take a photo of him?
About 11am, while Marilyn and I were seated by the BBQ, all these car doors opening and shutting momentarily shattered the beautiful peace and stillness we were enjoying. Everyone had arrived and were making there way down to where we were seated. 23 people and of course about a dozen Jaguars turned up for the day, and it was great to see Wandy McIntyre-Leak, who was in Hobart for a few days, and came along with past members of the JCCT John and Star King (Wandy was staying with them).
A great variety of food was brought along for lunch, with a few opting to have a 'pancake' lunch at the restaurant. Marilyn and I had brought our own lunch, but must confess, we did head up to the restaurant later for a 'pancake' dessert.
Ron Leach brought along his 2 trophies, won at the National Rally, which were passed around and admired by all. (Photos of these trophies can be seen at the end of Ron's article near the front of this edition of Jaguar Torque)
As usual, it was another successful and enjoyable day of conversation and good food, with about 8 of us finishing up at Banjo's in New Norfolk for a final coffee before heading home. This is definitely a venue we will look at again in the future, as apart from the picturesque setting, the amenities were spotlessly clean.
