PVCC 40th Birthday Party for Cheryl

Saturday, December 12, 2009

Cheryl Tapp is the Secretary of the PVCC, and with her 40th Birthday approaching, she decided just 4 weeks prior that she would organise a special car show to celebrate the event. With the aid of her partner, Paul Harman, they hurriedly prepared flyers and trophies for the day, which included a band and a sausage sizzle. It was held at their property in Orielton with a gold coin donation at the gate for the Orielton Fire Brigade.

Despite the short notice, around 50 cars turned up for the day, which included at least 15 of Paul and Cheryl's cars. Our biggest concern was the freshly slashed grass paddock under the hot exhaust systems, but the Orielton Fire Brigade were there as well, and fortunately nothing happened.

Forms were handed out for voting purposes with about 6 different categories, of which one was "Best Hot Rod". John Harvey's XJ6 Series I 'Purple People Eater' was the closest thing there to a Hot Rod, so he won that trophy. Good one John.

John Harvey's XJ6 Series I, Des Wighton and Jenni Appleby's XJS and Andrew and Marilyn Irving's XJ6 Series II, accompanied by Rod Force, represented the JCCT.

As a matter of interest, Paul and Cheryl are very keen to build a Motor Museum on their property, and have already done much of the groundwork, including building plans. Their objective now is to 'get the word' out to motoring enthusiasts, and with the success of the Birthday bash, are considering making this an annual event. This in turn will let people know that this will be the future meeting place for car displays in the Sorell area. Sounds like a great plan, and we wish them every success with their endeavours.

Overall a great day, for which those members of the JCCT finished up at Banjo's in Sorell for a chat over a cuppa before heading home.
