"Pot Luck" Luncheon
Sunday 21 November 2010
Sunday dawned to yet another beautiful day, weather wise, with members heading out to the home of Des Wighton and Jenni Appleby at 11 am for what was to be a memorable day. With 22 attendees bringing along and /or cooking up their respective favourite dishes for all to share and sample. This concept was lost in translation for a few, and sadly we had a few cancel at the last minute, but all who attended had a great day, with talk of 'doing it again very soon'. Those who did not attend, you missed a real treat and unique experience, never mind, maybe next time??
The roll out of chicken wings, cheeses, biscuits and a delicious hot bacon and cheese cobb dip made by Faye Duffy was just the appetisers. This was followed by a couple of curry and spicy concoctions from Marilyn Irving and Cleve Allen (both very popular) a veal marsala dish from Des Wighton, an absolutely scrumptious chicken coronation, courtesy of Christina Hay plus a quiche and pizzas.

The desserts consisted of trifles, chocolate biscuit cream log, blackberry cream pie, tartlets, hot sticky date pudding, fruit flan and lemon slice. Of course the usual tea and coffee was available. What a bunch of little piglets we all were!!! Everything was sampled (several times), and all finished up as full as the proverbial 'family po'. It was about 5.30 pm before the first sign of movement homeward bound started, and what a delightful evening it was, as nobody really realised just how late it had become. Jenni insisted everyone stay till all the food was eaten, but with a few 'doggy' bags and the like took care of this. No one left disappointed and all agreed it was a very successful event, and vowed that it will not be the last.
Finally of course a big thank you must go to Des Wighton and Jenni Appleby for opening up their home for this event to take place. The gardens had been specially finished off, with only 24 hours to spare before the Sunday luncheon. Everything looked a treat on the day, and for those who did not attend - don't miss the next one!!!!!!
Another great day with the Jaguar Car Club, and thank you to all those who were able to attend, the great food was another story. Me being a connoisseur of all fine food was in my element. A very enjoyable day. - A big thankyou to Andrew and Marilyn who arrived early to help Jenni with the setting up while I was off doing some last minute shopping.
I must also make special mention and thank Cleve Allen, Andrew Irving and our neighbour Robin Jacques for their huge effort over the past 5 weeks of moving large rocks and installing them into rock walls and gardens to make our home presentable for all our guests for this great event which I believe will be more to follow in the future. Thank you all, and for those who were feeling unwell and were unable to attend, we wish you a speedy recovery.
Your hosts Des & Jenni
