Oatlands Spring Festival
Sunday 17th October

After a few days of extremely foul weather, it was debatable if Marilyn and I were going to venture out on the Sunday for this event, however on Sunday morning, the rain had stopped and the sky looked reasonable (just a bit chilly). So off we set to fill the 'Royal Lady' up at Brighton and wait for the other Jaguars to come through from their meeting place at Granton.

On arrival at Oatlands, how grand we looked coming through the township in convoy (Southern members) to our parking area on the street in the middle of town. The Daimler had to be parked at an angle due to its length, as we either covered the footpath with the boot, or stuck out in the road, which would have seen problems with the passing parade. Shortly after our arrival, the Northern contingent arrived in convoy, and yet another grand sight to behold coming through the township. It was an even mix of North and South, with around a dozen Jaguars / Daimlers on display for the public to ogle and drool over, which of course they did.

Three other car clubs failed to turn up, sadly, so it was just the PVCC and JCCT that showed off their magnificent vehicles. A member of the PVCC arrived in a convertible Cadillac, and there was speculation as to which was the longer vehicle. This query got the better of me as the day wore on and finished up measuring the 2 vehicles. The Daimler came out on top at 280 mm longer (nearly a foot) than the Cadillac. This must have been one of the longest vehicles ever made in Britain - anyway, curiosity satisfied we enjoyed the rest of the day, so much to see and do.

Plenty of stalls, for which we came away with a few items. Great to see the old mill restored and operational once again. Marilyn ventured over to the reptile tent for a look-see, and wanted to hold the snake??? All of which I viewed from about 10 kms away (the only good snake is a dead snake, that's my excuse and I am sticking to it. Works for me). Apparently she was unable to have her 'cuddle' with the snake, as it had been a bit cranky on the day.!!!

Unfortunately, the Oatlands officials seemed few and far between, so we never found out about the street parade and times for assembly. Consequently, most of us were walking around when they came to the car display area to inform us it was time to get assembled for the parade. Only Tony Prins (with Des Wighton as passenger) and Roger and Olivia Ryan participated in the street parade. Never mind, as it was a nightmare too get them re-parked afterwards with all the people around at that time of day.

All enjoyed a fabulous day, and for ourselves, arrived home with wind burnt faces and tired.
