Winter Sleepover - Scamander
June 2011

Four couples from the North and 10 couples from the South travelled to the picturesque East Coast Town of Scamander for the annual winter sleepover. We, and the Post Veteran Car Club, on arrival at the Scamander Hotel Resort, were welcomed by means of a very impressive rolling neon sign specially worded for both clubs. Alistair and Faye and Cleve and Jill were wearing two badges for the weekend.

After our arrival, the energetic took walks, others just caught up with fellow members and one even went up the coast looking for surf. This followed with the mandatory pre-dinner drinks and nibbles. The very large room at the Resort accommodated both Clubs for dinner (the bread and butter pudding was to die for) and some stayed on for post-dinner chatter around the fire, whilst others managed to cram into Jenni?s and Des? room for a nightcap or two, or maybe three.

After breakfast on the following day some ventured up to St Helens and others to the Elephant Pass Pancake Parlour for lunch. A few of the ladies participated in a little retail therapy and proudly displayed their purchases later in the day.

It looked like the Sunday morning golf match would be a non-event as Leon and Grant were the only ones with clubs. Martin saved the day by noticing a sign for a par three course in St. Helens, so four brave men accepted the challenge. After driving several kms on a gravel road we finally reached the course and found a very pleasant spot in the middle of the bush. Leon, being the only one in the four who had played before, won the much prized trophy. This followed with players and partners enjoying hot tea and a chat with the friendly owner.

Sunday night we were joined by Lyndon and Jill and the pre-dinner drinks and nibbles were partaken in the very crowded room of the recently returned tourists, Barry and Athalie. It was nice to catch up with Jenny and Kevin Love who joined us for another great roast dinner. Some retired early and others stayed on and socialised.

Next morning we had breakfast together, packed up, and lined up for a Club photo. What an ordeal that was for Jenni to get us organised. We had a great time, the accommodation was very good (with a five star view), lovely weather and wonderful company. As we departed, the Hotel sign was bidding us farewell and wishing us a safe trip. Thanks Jenni for organising everything.

Those who enjoyed the weekend were:
Bob and Marg, Leon and Heather, Gail and Dale, Athalie and Barry, Chris and Ron, Rod and Anne, Des and Jenni, Martin and Kaye, Grant and Tamara, Bill and Annette, Lyndon and Jill, Tony and Shirley, Faye and Alistair, Jill and Cleve.
