MG Car Club's Historic Race Meeting at Baskerville
Sunday 16 October 2011
A field of over a hundred historic racing cars competed at Baskerville Raceway on Saturday and Sunday 15/16th October 2011.
The walk down memory lane included Shannon's Shine and Show. As part of the 50th anniversary of Jaguar E Type's the Club organised a collection of the marque.
Members and their cars in the show included the following:
 - Chris Edwards - 1962 Series 1, 3.8 E Type Coupe
 - Ed Newton - 1965 Series 1, 4.2 E Type Coupe
 - Tony Prins - 1966 Series 1, 4.2 E Type Coupe
 - Noel Rossiter - 1969 Series 2, 4.2 E Type Coupe
 - Ron Leach - 1972 Series 3, 5.3 E Type, 2+2 Coupe
Chris Edwards organised the cars and the Jaguar flags to ensure that the Club had the best spot at the event. He even organised three laps of the track behind race legend Jim Richards who was driving the Shannon's Ford Galaxie.
The E Type men weren't the only club members at the two day event. Our number one ticket holder and life member, Dave Dungey competed both days in his historic Riley special. He competed to within two seconds of his nominated lap time in the pouring rain. Good on ya Dave!
Club members seen at the event included Tom Hey, up from Orford for the weekend. Lee Hudson was in attendance without his JAG but I understand it's on the mend. Michael Hobden, the Classic on the Beach man was there with his Porsche Carera (very nice too). The King Island Jaguar driven by Geoff Dodge appeared to be the only Jaguar powered car at the circuit.
Long time member, Geoff Cuthbert was there with potential member, Glen Clements. They were sharing the Daimler Sovereign (ex Ron Leach). Roger Walker was there on behalf of the MG Car Club but brought along his lovely red 3.4 Mark 2. He kindly parked it with our E Type display to make up the six cars we had promised to provide for the Shannon Show and Shine.
Whilst the weather was at best average with constant rain squalls, the meeting was well attended and most enjoyable.
Thanks to Chris Edwards for organising yet another "gathering of the clan".
